Waxing Poetics – Baby Jane

The biggest hit from their largest selling album, here is a fine performance of “Baby Jane,” played for an enthusiastic crowd at Norfolk’s Boathouse. This performance is from a short set played at a January 1989 tribute to the late, great Dave Sherry, the man behind the live music of Norfolk’s famous (and now sadly gone) King’s Head Inn. Waxing Poetics played many a three-set-a-night gig at the King’s Head, and it was their launch platform to the larger clubs and colleges of the east coast and beyond during their heyday of 1986-1991. All three studio albums now available on iTunes and amazon. www.waxingpoetics.net

That old rust ass boat on the album cover is at Northside Park on Tidewater Drive stuck in the marsh. I dont think anybody moved it…it just rusted away. I’m pretty sure this was filmed at the Boathouse…the wood beams around the stage give it away…THANKS FOR THE FLASHBACK

Jan 1989…I’m pretty sure I was at the Kings Head Inn, across from ODU when this show was shot…if not that night, one really close to that one. I had to order Manakin Moon from overseas a few years back … good to hear it’s available again.

Hard not to have been in Tidewater (as it was called at the time) without knowing about The Waxing Poetics or Left Wing Fascists. Man, what a good time that was.

Saw Waxing Poetics a bunch of times at King’s Head Inn. Great times. Worked for Track’s and they let us in free. So many great concerns there by the Poetics and others.

FM99 did a great job of promoting these guys, Henry “The Bull” Del’Toro and Jimmy Ray Dunn did them alot of justice. RIP Henry, you are missed.

Wow so many thumbs up! I saw the Waxing Poetics at the 4400 Club and at The Wave at 15th street. Really enjoyed them. Brings back so many memories!

What a great group. They never got the recognition they deserved. David, Paul, damn will someone just invent a time machine so I can go back one more time.

i think they played my prom 1987

  12. RelentlessNoise

I think they hauled that old metal hulk away years ago, but Northside Park is still there.

The sound for the live stuff is straight from the on-camera mic, and tweaked as best I could. Of course, the actual album track is available at iTunes and Amazon.

I’ve always loved this song. I wish there was an upload with better quality sound.

Thank you thank you for posting these videos. I was stationed at Norfolk in the Marines at FAST CO and I used to catch these guys live, along with Left Wing Fascists and others at the Boathouse, the Peppermint beach club, and the Kings head in. Brings back cool memories
