Max Harris Poetry Award 2009

This year's Max Harris Poetry Award is now open. Offering a prize of $3,000 for the winning entry, the Max Harris Poetry Award aims to recognise the talent of Australian poets. For further information about this year's competition, please follow this link.


Poetry and Poetics Symposium

The third annual Poetry and Poetics Symposium was held on the 1st and 2nd of May at the SA Migration Museum.

On the theme of 'Eight generations of experience', the symposium presented works by locally based poets and academics relating to the experiences and issues of migration. The symposium featured a keynote presentation by Professor Graeme Harper, the launch of the book Mindscape, a poetry and musical presentation, as well as poetry readings and papers. Poems in Perspex: Max Harris Poetry Award 2007

On 6 November, the Poetry and Poetics Centre launched the book Poems in Perspex: Max Harris Poetry Award 2007, edited by Ioana Petrescu, Cameron Fuller and Gill Ratcliff. Jill Jones, Senior Lecturer at Adelaide University, launched the book, which features poems from the 2007 competition as well as essays about poetry and poetics. Poetry News and Information

A selection of poems entered in the Max Harris Poetry Award 2008 were recently chosen by members of the Poetry and Poetics Centre. In addition to the entries selected by the judges, these poems are considered to be of high quality and worthy of recognition. We are pleased to present this selection of poems on our website.

Former UniSA student, Kim Mann launched her first poetry volume, Awake during anaesthetic in April. For more info about this and other book launches click here.

UniSA student Rob Hardy has just had his first poetry book published by Friendly Street in association with Wakefield Press.

The Meadows Muse Short Story and Poetry competitions are open to all writers. A poster and entry form can be downloaded.
